From where comes the Pearls?!

Amy Powney: “At Mother of Pearl we are creating a concept, an aesthetic but mostly when I am designing for the brand I am always thinking about the final piece and would therefore relate it very strongly to product design as well as an art form, but perhaps, not art!” (La Petite Anglaise)

The combination between art and fashion has always attracted me because see Fashion like a  lather and chiffon parade has always seemed too restrictive. Many Fashion Designers try to translate their items like pieces of art ready to be exposed, but between all today I want to talk about a brand that will have their great debut during the next London Fashion Week.

It’s Mother of Pearl, brand Made in UK founded by Maia Norman which, since 2010 decided to collaborate with the Designer Amy Powney. Mother Of Pearl has a main characteristic: the perfect interaction with the Art World. No recalls, no visit to museums, no inspirations from art masterpieces, but works who starts by the cooperation between the great tailoring of Amy Powney, able to mix perfectly sportswear and high fashion, and the creativity of the “pure” artist that is involved in prints creations which will enrich the final outfits.

Maia Norman:“We look for works that are visual enough to hold their own without any narrative, but are also interesting when they’re investigated.” (NY Post.com)

Thanks to this work Mother Of Pearl is able, in every season, to present us outfit which are really recognizable by their tailoring, but different for their environments and references. An excellent experiment of contamination!

Maia Norman:“We look for works that are visual enough to hold their own without any narrative, but are also interesting when they’re investigated.”
